Description
The former Infants School, known as Clifton Fields School, is located adjacent to number 108 on Clifton Road. Built around 1870, it is constructed of red brick featuring polychrome brick patterning and has a clay tile roof with decorative ridge cresting. The building has a rectangular hall with an apse at the south gable end. The north gable, facing the road, includes a central gabled porch with a pointed arched doorway and a large trefoiled circular window at the attic level. There is a band of diaper-patterning below the eaves, polychrome surrounds to the openings, and moulded brick modillions on the gables. The apse and east elevation feature pointed-arched windows, and there is a brick chimney stack with a moulded cornice on the west elevation. A gabled bell turret with polychrome patterning is situated on the ridge. The interior retains a hammer-beam roof. The building has been converted to domestic accommodation.
