Description
No. 48 King Street is a house that likely dates from the early 18th century. It has been refronted and refenestrated, with an additional bay added in the early 19th century. The building is timber-framed, with a rendered front but exposed brick on the south elevation and the 19th-century addition. The original section features a tiled roof with an end brick chimney stack on the north side, while the addition has a pantiled roof with a brick chimney stack on the south side. The house has a two-bay end-chimney stack plan and stands two storeys high. The original part includes two triple casements and a central recessed doorcase, while the addition has one ground-floor casement with a cambered top. Inside, there is evidence of the timber frame with jowled posts in the upper storey, which is concealed beneath wallpaper. Other interior features include a plank door, a large brick chimney stack, and original rafters in the roof.
