Description
The Goldington War Memorial is a 4.5-meter tall cross made of Portland stone, located on the south side of Goldington Green, directly across from Goldington Green Lower School and approximately 170 meters southeast of Goldington Hall, which is a Grade II-listed building. The memorial features a Latin cross with a tapering shaft that rises from a tapering pedestal.
On the front (south) face of the cross-head, there is a relief inscription that reads "1914/ IN MEMORIAM/ 1919." A large bronze wreath is attached to the front of the cross-head. The names of those commemorated are displayed in recessed panels at the base of the cross-shaft on the east, south, and west faces. Additionally, there is a recessed panel on the south face of the pedestal that contains the inscription "1939 – 1945/ (17 NAMES)."
The memorial is situated on a raised paved platform, which is enclosed by a low wall and features shallow steps to the south for access to the cross.
