Description
The Old Forge is a house that was formerly two cottages, dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. It features timber framed construction with red brick infill and is partly covered in colourwashed roughcast render. The roofs are made of old clay tiles. Originally, the two cottages were set at right angles to each other and were linked in the 18th century by an additional bay to the north of the east block and a lean-to between this and the block, creating an overall L-plan shape.
The building has one storey and attics. The east wing has a front elevation with two casement windows on the ground floor, a 20th-century gabled porch on the right-hand side, a 20th-century lean-to addition on the left-hand side, and a red brick double ridge stack at the center of the original block. The rear elevation includes a later lean-to addition and one gabled dormer, featuring a variety of casement windows.
The west wing's south elevation has an outshot on the left-hand side with a single diamond leaded light, two ground floor windows, and one gabled dormer on the right-hand side, also with a variety of casement windows, along with a red brick double ridge stack.
