Description
Cooke's Almshouses, located on the south side of High Street in Bewdley, consist of eight almshouses founded in 1693. They were restored in 1860 and have undergone some alterations in the mid-20th century. The building features a combination of rendered sandstone and brick with a tiled roof, and it has two clusters of four square chimney stacks at the rear.
The structure is two storeys high and includes a moulded cornice and a string course at the ground floor, along with a 19th-century brick plinth. There are four windows, which are three-light casements. A centrally placed stone tablet with a long inscription about the founder, Thomas Cooke, is adorned with a segmental pediment and an eared architrave with consoles. At the rear, there is a lean-to that runs the length of the wall, which contains the entrance.
