Description
This is a barn located about 25 metres northeast of Mearse Farmhouse, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of red brick in English garden-wall bond, featuring alternate headers omitted to create ventilation holes. The roof is covered with machine tiles and has gabled ends with brick dentil eaves.
The barn has a five-bay layout with opposing cart entrances leading to a central threshing floor. On both the southwest and northeast sides, there are large central cart entrances with cambered arches and wooden door frames. High-level loading doors are positioned to the left and right, as well as on the northwest end. There is a small doorway to the right of the cart entrance on the northeast side, which also has a cambered arch and wooden frame.
Inside, the barn features tie-beams supported on brick piers against the walls, with queen-struts and two tiers of tenoned (or trenched) purlins. The common rafters and ridgepiece are intact, and there is a stone flag threshing floor.
