Description

Alveston House is a late 17th-century house that has been altered in the mid-19th century and again in the 20th century. It is now divided into a house and two flats. The house is constructed of brick with a machine tile roof and gable end stacks. It is three storeys high with an elaborate dentilled brick cornice, a band to the first floor, and a flat pentice roof to the ground floor. There are six windows, featuring timber cross windows with rubbed brick heads on the upper floors. The second floor has cross-windows with flat brick heads. The ground floor is stuccoed and has two canted bay windows, each with a six-pane sash window to the front and two-pane sashes to the sides. The entrance to the left of centre, for No. 7, has a segmental brick head, wooden architrave, and a six-panel door dating to the 18th century. The entrance to the right of centre, for No. 6, has an overlight and a four-panel door.
