Description

This is a late 17th-century house with alterations made in the mid-19th century and some 20th-century additions. It is constructed of brick on a sandstone plinth, with a tile roof and stacks at the rear. The house is three storeys high with an attic, which is lit by two gabled dormers. A deep, modillioned wooden cornice runs along the top, and bands delineate the ground and first floors, featuring a moulded soffit. There are five windows on the front elevation. The windows are wooden cross-windows with rubbed brick heads. The central window has a broken pediment supported by three shaped brackets and is a French casement, opening onto a mid-19th-century cast iron balcony. The upper floor has wooden cross-windows. On the ground floor, there are three windows with rubbed brick heads, and entrances are located in the left and right corners. The left-hand entrance has a rubbed brick head, a moulded wooden architrave with an overlight, and a 19th-century door – likely originally a window. The right-hand entrance has a moulded wooden architrave with a two-pane overlight and a 17th-century door consisting of six raised and fielded panels. This entrance previously had a shell canopy, which was damaged in 1974.

Inside, a dog-leg staircase features a closed and moulded string, a moulded handrail, and turned balusters. A bolection-moulded fireplace is present in a room on the first floor. Attached to the property are cast iron railings with fleur-de-lys detailing on the standards.
