Description

Piper’s Hill Cottage is a house dating back to the 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century and the 20th century. It is constructed with a timber frame featuring plastered wattle-and-daub panels, and has a thatched roof that is hipped at the north end. The house has three framed bays arranged north/south. A lean-to addition extends from the north end, and a lobby-entry is located against the stack in the south bay. The building is single-storey with an attic, and is lit by an eyebrow dormer window. It has irregular window openings, including five 2-light casements of varying sizes, dating from the mid-19th and 20th centuries. The entrance is on the right side, with a porch set under the lean-to thatch roof. The timber framing consists of two square panels in height, with straight angle braces. The south gable features two queen struts to the collar. Group Value: the building is recognised for its contribution to the local character and heritage.
