Description
The Tythe Barn is an 18th-century barn located on the south side of Holmes Lane in Hanbury. It is timber-framed and weatherboarded, with corrugated iron sheeting on the south gable end and a plain tiled roof. The barn consists of three framed bays, featuring a central wagon bay with a midstrey on the east elevation and opposing cart entries with double doors. The north elevation has a doorway in each outer bay.
Inside, the barn has long rectangular panels extending from the sill to the wall-plate, with long straight braces in the lower corners. The roof is supported by collar and tie-beam trusses with raking struts, which have been truncated at the ends and altered to include king-posts. Despite some alterations in the late 19th century and mid-20th century to the farmstead, this small barn with a midstrey has remained largely intact. Holmes Farmhouse is not included in the listing.
