Description
Tomlins is a house dating from around 1600, with alterations made in the mid-19th century and mid-20th century. It features a timber-frame construction with brick infill and a tiled roof, designed in an L-plan with wings extending to the north and west, each consisting of two framed bays. At the junction of the wings, there is a stack with three brick shafts, two of which are set diagonally. The house has two storeys and an attic in the east and west wings.
On the east front, there are two windows: a 4-light window with 17th-century ovolo mullions to the left and a 2-light casement to the right. The ground floor has four windows, all 2-light casements except for one that has a single light to the right. There is a door to the left of this single-light window, with a gabled casement above the entrance, which features a late 19th-century studded door. The framing of the house shows that the cross-wing to the left has three square panels high to the first floor with tension braces, while the ground floor is close-studded. To the right, there are four square panels high with straight tension braces on the ground floor.
