Description

This early 17th-century house, which was formerly a public house, has undergone later alterations in the 18th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of brick and timber framing with brick infill, set on a sandstone plinth, and has a tile roof. The building follows a 'T' plan; the bar portion of the 'T' is timber-framed, while the main block is a late 18th-century brick addition. Brick chimneys are located to the side of the timber-framed section, featuring two shafts arranged in a six-point star pattern, and centrally to the brick section.

The west front features a jettied timber-framed wing on the left, with two storeys and an attic lit by gables. It has a two-light casement window to the first floor and an angled bay window on the ground floor. To the right is a two-storey, attic section with two gabled dormers; brick coped verges are present. There are three windows, each with three-light casements under rubbed brick heads with square labels. An entrance is located to the left, accessed through a gabled porch. The timber-frame displays a pattern of three square panels per floor, with straight tension braces and decorative jowls to the ground floor corner posts. The building was undergoing renovation at the time of a survey in November 1984.
