Description
Number 3 Abbey Place is a house that is part of a group of three, dating from the mid to late 18th century, with some later alterations and additions. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and features a hipped Welsh-slate roof with painted moulded eaves cornice and a chamfered brick ridge stack on the left side.
The house has two storeys and a cellar, with a symmetrical façade of two bays on each floor. The entrance elevation shows a 6/6 boxed sash window on the right side of each floor, which has painted channelled voussoirs, a keystone, and a sill. To the left, there is a blind window painted to match, set in a similar surround. The central entrance is framed by a Classical architrave with enriched pilasters and an open pediment featuring an enriched cornice. Above the door is a Gothick-traceried fanlight, and the entrance itself consists of a 6-panel door accessed by three stone steps with wrought-iron handrails. The house also has a chamfered brick plinth with a cellar grille on the left side.
On the left return, or garden elevation, there are tripartite windows consisting of 2/2, 6/6, and 2/2 sashes, all with similar surrounds. The rear of the house has an old tile roof. The interior has not been inspected.
