Description
Number 2 Abbey Place, also known as Morewood House, is a house that is part of a group of three, built in the mid to late 18th century with later alterations. The building is primarily constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, featuring a roof covered with Welsh slates and painted brick dentilled eaves on the front pitch, while the rear has old tiles. There are brick stacks located at both ends and the rear of the house.
The exterior of the house has three storeys, with the uppermost level raised or rebuilt. It has a two-window range, with the first floor featuring 6/6 boxed sash windows that have painted sills and brickwork above that is painted to resemble flat arches. The second floor contains 3/3 sash windows, and the ground floor has 6/6 sashes with painted sills and gauged brick flat arches. To the left of the centre, there is a doorcase that has a Classical architrave with corniced pilasters, rosettes above, and an open pediment. The doorcase includes a fanlight with radial glazing bars and a six-panel door. Additionally, there are painted plinth courses with a cellar grille on the left side. The interior has not been inspected.
