Description
Moat House, formerly known as Moat Farmhouse, is a house dating from around 1700 with early 19th-century alterations. It is constructed of brick with ashlar dressings and features a hipped tile roof and gable end stacks. The building has two storeys above cellars and an attic that is lit from the rear. Notable architectural details include a moulded stone cornice, chamfered quoins, and four windows with flush framed 8-pane sashes set beneath rubbed brick heads with keystones. The central entrance has a flat canopy with a dentilled cornice supported by consoles, leading to an eight raised and fielded panel door.
Inside, there is an early 18th-century well staircase with turned balusters, which was remodelled in the early 19th century. The dining room on the front left features large rectangular panelling from the early 18th century, with a fireplace flanked by alcoves that have painted shell heads and fluted pilasters, topped with a broken pediment over the door. The entrance hall is panelled up to half its height, with a semi-circular headed entry leading to the stair hall at the rear.
