Description
The Old Parsonage is a house dating from the early 18th century, possibly built over an older structure, with early and mid-19th century additions and early 20th century alterations. It is constructed of brick and features plain tiled roofs with gable end parapets. The house has a large external chimney at the rear center, with additional chimneys at the left end, rear center, and right.
The central range of the house is two storeys high, with an attic and cellar, and taller end bays. The front elevation consists of a two-bay 18th century house with single-bay additions at both gable ends. The central part has a fine moulded wood modillion eaves cornice, two ground and first floor 16-pane sash windows with moulded architraves and cambered heads, and a central entrance featuring an open pediment, entablature, panelled pilasters, and a door with four raised and fielded panels along with raised and fielded reveals.
To the left, there is a three-storey addition with a brick modillion eaves cornice; its windows have cambered heads and are all tripartite. The right side addition includes a full-height two-storey canted bay with a parapet, added in the early 20th century. All windows in this section have moulded architraves, with ground floor windows being 15-pane sashes and first floor windows being glazing bar sashes, along with recessed rectangular panels in the parapet above.
The interior has been much altered, and there are many additions at the rear. A fine topiary garden is situated in front of the house.
