Description

Lilac Cottage is a house dating from the 15th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century and 20th century. It features a timber-frame structure with rendered infill and a tile roof. The building has three framed bays arranged in a north/south orientation, with an external brick stack on the north gable. The west front, which faces the street, is two storeys high and has a roughly central entrance. The framing consists of four square panels high, with a curved tension brace in the east wall and decorative S-braces in the upper panel of the north gable. The truss in the south gable includes raking struts to the collar and a clasped purlin, while the west bargeboard is scalloped in relief, indicative of its 15th-century origins. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest. Lilac Cottage is adjacent to High House Cottage.
