Description

Belle House is a former warehouse that later served as a fire station and is now a house and shop. It dates from the 18th century and was restored and converted in 1973. The building is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond with a Welsh slate roof on the left section, which features an eaves cornice, while the right end has plain tiles, a brick stack, and brick dentilled eaves on the taller bay.

The exterior has two adjoining frontages. The left side is two storeys high with two bays, featuring horned 6/6 horned sashes (dating from the late 20th century) that have rendered channelled voussoirs, keystones, and small wrought-iron balconies on the first floor. The ground floor has two round-arched doorways with 20th-century doors and fanlights, as well as two high round-arched vehicle doorways that are now glazed.

On the right side, there is a one-bay range that is three storeys tall and has a cellar. It features 8/8 sashes with gauged brick flat arches and painted sills on the ground and first floors, along with a smaller 4/8 sash above and a cellar grille. The building has a painted plinth.

The interior was not inspected. Historically, it was originally a warehouse belonging to a draper located opposite before it was converted into a fire station. The frontage has been substantially renewed during the conversion, although the right side corresponds with old photographs.
