Description
Ayrton House is a house dating from the late 18th century, likely incorporating timber framing from the 17th century. The exterior is red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with the ground floor painted. It has a Welsh slate roof with an eaves band and a brick ridge stack. The house is three storeys high, plus a cellar, and has a three-window front. The second floor has 4/8 sashes in painted reveals and sills. The first floor has 18-pane 2-light casements, with the central one blocked; these have painted sills, channelled voussoirs, and keystones. The ground floor features a continuous moulded hood, with two canted bay windows: one with 4/4:6/6:4/4 sashes, and the other with 8:12:8-pane fixed glazing and a single-pane casement. There are two doorways, one between the bay windows, with a moulded doorcase, a four-panel door, and two stone steps. The other doorway is to the left, with a barred overlight and a six-panel door. A cellar grille breaks the painted plinth. The interior is reported to be timber-framed, though it has not been inspected.
