Description

The Carr Memorial, located about 5 metres north of the north aisle of the Church of St James, is a chest tomb dating from around 1841. It is constructed of ashlar and designed in the style of a Greek sarcophagus, featuring tapering sides that rest on claw feet at each corner. The tomb is topped with a flat canopy supported by four Tuscan columns, and it has a shallow ridged and hipped top. On the south side, an inscription reads: "In the vault beneath/ are deposited the remains of/ Robert James Carr D D/ Lord Bishop of Worcester/ who departed this life/ April 24th 1841/ in the 67th year of his age."
