Description
The gate lodges and walls to the forecourt of Hartlebury Castle date from the late 17th century and were altered in the mid-18th century. They are constructed of brick with stone dressings. The walls enclose the east, north, and south sides of the forecourt, with two identical lodges positioned in the middle of the east wall. At the south-east corner, the walls connect to the former stable block, which is listed as the Gardener's house and garage.
Each lodge features a shallow pyramidal roof that is concealed by a crenellated stone parapet. The east (front) side of the lodges has two lancet windows with stone dressings, and there are dome-headed gate piers at the gateway. The walls flanking the lodges are crenellated and topped with stone coping. The north wall of the enclosure stands about two meters tall, while the south wall is approximately 1.25 meters tall, both featuring weathered stone coping. A wrought iron gate is located at the south-west corner.
