Description
This is a mid-to-late 18th-century house, originally a single dwelling that was later divided into two separate residences, with alterations made in the early-to-mid 19th century. The building is constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern. It features a Welsh slate roof with a deep, moulded eaves cornice and brick end stacks. The house has three storeys and a cellar.
The front elevation has a three-window arrangement. The first floor contains 8/8 sash windows, each with painted channelled voussoirs, keystones and sills. Above these are similar sash windows of 4/8 light, without keystones. On the ground floor, there is a larger 8/8 sash window to the right; a canted bay window to the left with a pitched lead roof and 4/4:6/6:4/4 sash windows and projecting sill; a central doorcase with enriched pilasters, a leaded hood, a fanlight with Gothick tracery and an enriched 5-panel door; and a similar entrance on the right. A moulded stone plinth, partly painted, runs along the base, with a cellar grille set below the right-hand window. The rear elevation has sash windows and brick dentilled eaves. There are further wings to the rear of the property. The interior has not been inspected. Deeds from 1680 indicate that the building was formerly used as an inn, known as "The Maidenhead," and also as a maltster's premises.
