Description

Nos. 196-202 Henwick Road is a former terrace of four houses, now converted into three, located in Worcester. This building dates from the early 19th century and underwent alterations around 1964 when it was converted into a single dwelling, although the door to No. 200 remains but is blocked internally. The exterior is made of painted brick and features a plain clay tile roof that is part-hipped on the left side.

The building has ridge stacks on the party walls and at the right end, though these have been altered and do not have pots. The doorcases are simple timber constructions with pediments. The structure is two stories tall, with a basement and attic, and has a single-depth plan. Notable brick detailing includes dentilled eaves.

The first floor appears almost blank, with three cambered-head blind recesses on the left and center, and a 6/6 sash window on the right. The ground floor features 6/6 sash windows, except for the right end, which has an 8/8 sash. Some of these windows are replacements with horns, all having flush frames beneath cambered arches and no projecting sills.

There are very small 1/1 sashes inserted into the first and second floors of the left house. The two doors for this house are four-panel designs, with the upper panels raised and fielded, featuring bolection moulding, while the lower panels are flush with added cover-moulding. The center door (No. 196) has a similar design, but the bottom panels are flush-beaded. All three doors have plain doorcases with console brackets supporting the open pediment. The right house has a renewed pediment and a 20th-century multi-panel door. The interior has not been inspected.
