Description

This is the north part of a semi-detached house located on Henwick Road, Worcester. It dates back to the 18th century with later additions and alterations. The house is constructed of red brick with stone dressings and has a plain clay tile roof with a 2-span design and parapeted gables. It features a central stack and an end-wall stack, both with oversailing detail and decorative pots. A timber doorcase with a canopy is also present. A wrought-iron balustrade is located at the rear, overlooking the river, and also runs along the steps.

The building has a square, double-depth plan with a hall and staircase positioned to the right. The symmetrical left-return elevation is considered the principal facade. The exterior is two storeys with a basement and attics, featuring three first-floor windows. Brick detailing includes dentilled eaves, while stone dressings comprise sills and fluted keystones with moulded caps to the window heads. The ground floor has two windows, both being 2/2 sashes in plain reveals with sills and gauged flat brick arches. A 2-light basement window is located to the left, set beneath a segmental arch. Two dormers, each with a hipped roof and paired 2-pane, side-hung casements, are visible. The rear elevation, which overlooks the river, maintains a formal appearance with similar fenestration to the left-return. A later canted bay with a pitched roof and a 3-pane French window (with 3-pane fixed casements to each return) has been added to the right ground floor. Below this bay is a vertically boarded, round-headed door leading to the basement and a flight of steps with a simple square baluster handrail leading to a 6-panel door accessing the ground floor, topped with a plain fanlight. The Henwick Road elevation features three first-floor windows: smaller 1/1 and 2/2 sashes flanking a larger 2/2 sash. A single ground-floor window, also an unequal 2/2 sash, is present. A 6-panel door to the right has raised and fielded upper panels and flush-beaded bottom panels, with a narrow single-light overlight. The doorcase has pilasters, paired ornamental console brackets and a canopy with a moulded cornice. The interior of the property was not inspected.
