Description
Friends' Mews consists of three houses that have been converted into six flats for the Society of Friends. The houses were built in 1789, 1755, and 1737, with conversions taking place around 1980. They are constructed of reddish-orange brick in Flemish bond, topped with a plain tile roof, and feature left end and party-wall stacks with oversailing courses and pots.
The exterior is two storeys high with attics, displaying a symmetrical arrangement of windows: one first-floor window on the left, two in the centre, and two on the right. There is a chamfered plinth. The left house has 8/8 sash windows with flat arches made of gauged brick, while the others have 6/6 near-flush sash windows in cambered-arched surrounds, also with flat arches of gauged brick. Each house has an entrance on the right, featuring 6-flush-beaded-panel doors. The left entrance has a fanlight with gothic glazing bars and a pilastered doorcase with an open pediment, while the others have divided overlights and gabled hoods supported by console brackets. The attic features two gable-ended dormers in the centre and right, each with casement windows. The left gable end includes casement windows in elliptically-arched surrounds on the ground floor and in the gable.
The building is adjacent to the Friends' Meeting House on the right. The interior has not been inspected.
