Description
No. 2 Foregate Street is a terraced house that has been converted into a shop and offices. It dates from the early to mid 19th century and has undergone later additions and alterations, including a ground floor renovation in the 1980s. The building is constructed of red and brown brick in Flemish bond, with stucco dressings. It features a concealed roof and tall end stacks, with the right stack being renewed, all topped with oversailing detail and pots.
The building stands three stories high with attics and has three windows on the first floor. The stucco detailing includes a wide band between the first and second floors, which has a recessed panel and a central annular motif, along with a frieze, cornice, and blocking course. The first-floor windows are tall and narrow 9/9 sashes, while the second-floor windows are 3/6 round-arched head sashes with radial glazing in the heads. These windows are set in plain reveals with sills and gauged brick arches, flat above the first floor. The attic features three semi-circular headed lead dormers. The shopfront has been renewed with glazed materials.
The building is part of a group with numbers 3-6 and 63-66, which share historical and architectural significance.
