Description

5 Foregate Street is a late 18th-century terraced house, currently used as offices, located on the east side of Foregate Street in Worcester. It was previously listed under Friar Street. The building is constructed of red brick with stone dressings, topped with a slate roof partly hidden behind parapets with curvilinear gable ends. It features stacks to the left gable and to the right of the central ridge; both have overhanging details and decorative pots. Lead rainwater pipes and hopper heads are also present.

The house has a double-depth plan with a stairwell located to the rear right. The entrance hall was originally on the right side, but the ground floor is now open-plan. A service range extends to the rear right, and the building comprises four storeys plus a cellar. There are four windows on the first floor.

Architectural details include a modillion cornice, parapet copings, capped and fluted keystones to the window heads, window sills, and a further modillion cornice to the shopfront, which is a remnant of an earlier ground-floor facade. The windows are 6/6 sashes, except for those on the second floor, which are 3/3 sashes, all set under flat, gauged-brick arches and with sills.

The interior of the building has not been inspected.
