Description

58 Foregate Street is an early to mid-19th century house, now used as a shop. It was originally listed under the name Friar Street. The building is constructed of reddish-brown brick laid in Flemish bond, with stuccoed architraves and a timber cornice. The roof is tiled, with truncated, coped end brick stacks. It is three storeys high, with three windows on the first floor. The windows are 6/1 sash windows in plain reveals, with tooled architraves and keystones, and shaped sills. The area below the second-floor windows is panelled in brick. A dentil cornice runs along the top of the building. The ground floor features a glazed shop front designed in a traditional style, dating from the 1980s. The interior has not been inspected. The building has a prominent Georgian-style facade, making a positive contribution to the surrounding group of listed buildings along Foregate Street.
