Description
The North Gate Pier, quadrant wall, railings, and pier at the entrance to Perdiswell Park are notable features dating back to 1788, with the quadrant walls, pier, and railings likely added around 1880. The gate pier is made of rusticated ashlar and stands approximately 3.5 meters high, adorned with a Coade stone panel that features a reclining female figure alongside a tall ship and chart, symbolizing 'Navigation'. This panel is inscribed with 'COADE'S Lithod-y- LONDON 1788'. The quadrant walls are roughly coursed stone, about 1 meter high, and have curved ashlar copings. The cast-iron railings include a round-arched arcade and spearhead bars, extending for about 12 meters to a rough coursed stone end pier that is approximately 2 meters high with a peaked cap. This entrance marks the site of the former Perdiswell Hall, which was demolished in 1956, and now leads into Perdiswell Park. The Stable Block and walled garden of the former hall still exist. Pevsner has described the Coade stone reliefs as 'beautiful'.
