Description

66 Bilford Road is a house that likely dates back to the 17th century, with later additions and alterations, including 20th-century infill and renovations. The building features a timber frame with painted brick and stucco infill, along with some remaining lath and plaster. It has brick and stone external stacks and was reroofed in the 18th or 19th century with a plain tile hipped roof, while the rear range has a steep gable-ended plain tile roof. The house is arranged in a T-plan and consists of two storeys with two bays, plus a single-storey rear range. The timber framing includes rectangular panels, some of which have been renewed, primarily on the first floor, supported by a bressumer. It features arch bracing and a jowled post at the north-west corner. The entrance leads to a porch in the infill. There is a renewed external stack on the north side and an original external stone stack at the rear of the wing, which has been renewed in brick at the upper stage.

Inside, the house retains extensive timber framing. The original kitchen in the rear wing has an inglenook fireplace that relates to the external stone stack. The main range includes two jowled posts and axial beams. The first floor has remains of the wall plate, chamfered rafters with run-out stops, and trenched purlins.
