Description

Chesterfield House is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house, along with an attached wall and outbuilding. It dates from the mid- to late 18th century, with some alterations made in the mid-19th century. The structure is built of brick and features plain and machine-tiled roofs, topped with a large ridge stack. It has a T-plan layout and a lobby entrance in the main section. The building stands two storeys high with an attic, showcasing modillion and dentilled eaves cornices.

The main south front consists of three bays, with all windows featuring cambered heads. On the ground floor, there are four 12-pane sash windows, while the first floor has three 4-pane sash windows. The main entrance, located between the first and second bays, is highlighted by a segmental moulded canopy supported by slender turned posts, leading to a 6-panelled door with a moulded architrave. There are also attic lights in the gable ends.

The interior has not been inspected. To the right of the house, there is an adjoining wall approximately four feet long and eight feet high, which includes a ledged and battened door with a cambered head. This door connects the house to the outbuilding, which is also made of brick and features a slate roof with a parapet and kneelers at its south gable end. The outbuilding is a single storey with a dentilled eaves cornice and consists of two bays, with a diaper header ventilation pattern at the apex of the south gable end and two shuttered windows on the east side. It is believed that this building served as the home farmhouse to The Manor.
