Description
This building is a barn and granary located about 20 yards north-west of Brickhouse Farmhouse, with an attached cider mill. It dates from the early 17th century and has mid-19th century alterations. The structure is timber-framed with brick infill on a brick plinth and features a half-hipped plain tiled roof. It consists of four framed bays that are roughly aligned east to west. The wagon bay, which is the second from the east end, has opposed cart entries with double doors. The building is partly two levels.
In terms of framing, there are three panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with long straight braces across the lower corners. The roof features truncated collar and tie-beam trusses with struts at the gable ends. On the south elevation, to the left of the wagon bay, there are three upper level windows, a stable door, and a loft door that is accessed by a flight of external sandstone and brick steps. The interior has been partly inspected and includes intermediate queen-post roof trusses, with the granary occupying the upper level of the two westernmost bays.
