Description

Milestone on the A443, dating from the early 18th century. This round-headed stone features an inscribed date that is largely obscured, although the number 7 is still legible. There is an indent where a missing plate was likely attached later. Thought to date to 1734 and possibly linked to the nearby Witley Court, this milestone serves as an important marker for travelers, helping them assess tolls and journey costs. Its ongoing use is indicated by a later metal plate that may have been added when a new series of milestones for the Worcester/Tenbury road was established.
