Description

Berrington Court and the adjoining outbuilding is a farmhouse dating from the early 18th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of brick and features a steeply-pitched, partly hipped plain tiled roof with brick end stacks that have tiled offsets. It stands two storeys high with an attic and includes a dormer. The façade consists of five bays, and the windows have cambered heads. Two ground floor and four first floor windows still have their original mullioned and transomed wood window frames, while two ground floor windows on the left have been replaced by 16-pane 19th-century sash windows. The central first floor window is blind. A 20th-century gabled dormer contains a three-light casement. The central entrance features a 19th-century timber gabled porch with trellis infill, leading to a six-panelled door that has four flush panels and two glazed upper panels. To the right, there is a single-bay, single-storey wing with a dentilled eaves cornice and a three-light casement in the front elevation. Inside, the house has a central hall with a dog-leg staircase and two panelled rooms located to the north-west. The panelling, which dates from around 1650, has been reused from an older building to the east, likely dating from the 16th century and altered in the 18th century. This older structure is part timber-framed and part refaced with brick, and it is connected to the present house by a brick wall.
