Description

Turnpike Cottage is a late 18th-century brick toll house, now a house, situated on the south side of the road. It has a hipped and gabled slate roof with two central brick ridge stacks. The building consists of a main range at right angles to the road, featuring a canted end bay facing the road and a gable extension wing to the left.

The street front has a central first-floor niche with a pointed head, flanked by canted bay faces. Each canted bay face has two-light casement windows with painted keyed lintels. The right return side features a central boarded door and two-light casement windows at both floors to the right, all with brick segmental lintels. The left side incorporates a projecting wing to the right and has a two-light casement window with a brick segmental lintel. The wing also has casement windows with painted keyed lintels to the street side and the gable end. The interior was not inspected.
