Description
The Foley Arms Hotel is a building dating from 1810, designed by Samuel and John Deykes, with additional wings added in 1812 and 1817. It stands three storeys tall and is finished in stucco, featuring a moulded cornice and a parapet. The facade has seven windows, with the 2nd, 5th, and 7th from the north slightly projecting forward. The central bay includes bay windows on either side of a French window on the first floor. Above one window, there is a plain arched moulding with gilt lettering, and the Royal Arms are displayed above the blocking course. A notable feature is the canopied wrought-iron balcony that serves four of the centre windows on the first floor, with wrought-iron trellis work extending along the cornice below this level. To the right, there is a three-light canted bay. The ground floor features a round-headed doorway with a radiating fanlight and double doors, although modern centre doors have been added. There is also modern trellis work at ground level. Notably, both Queen Adelaide and Queen Mary have stayed at the hotel.
