Description

Sherridge House is a house dating from the early 18th century, with earlier elements and alterations from the early to mid-19th century. It is constructed of brick in Flemish bond with limestone dressings and features a hipped slate roof. The house has two storeys and an attic, with six bays. The windows are sashed with glazing bars and have gauged brick heads. The outer windows on the ground floor are adorned with 19th-century stone architraves. A stone portico supported by five Tuscan columns extends over the other ground floor windows, with the main door located in the third bay. A chimney is positioned on the ridge between the fifth and sixth bays. The left-hand return wall, facing south-west, has three bays and features a Venetian sash window with Gothick glazing on the first floor. The right-hand return wall includes two three-storey canted bay windows.

The interior has not been fully inspected, but the south-western part of the house is said to contain part of a concealed timber frame. The stair hall features a staircase with an open string, slim turned balusters, and a ramped handrail, which leads to a landing supported by a screen of Tuscan columns.
