Description
Welland Court is a house dating from the mid-18th century, with earlier elements. It is built of brick in Flemish bond, featuring limestone dressings and a tiled roof. The façade presents a symmetrical design of two storeys and five bays, with the middle bay being pedimented and highlighted by quoins. The windows have gauged brick heads; those on the ground floor are sashed with glazing bars, while the first-floor windows are casements. Centrally located on the first floor is a Venetian window with a stone surround. The doorway is flanked by narrow windows and features an architrave with a pediment supported by brackets. Above the stone cornice, there is a brick parapet. The interior was not accessible during the survey in June 1986, but it appears that the entrance hall is divided by a screen of two Tuscan columns with pilaster responds. A sketch of the house by FWB Charles, dated 1973, indicates that a timber-framed house from around 1600 was encased in brick around 1700 and re-fronted around 1750.
