Description

Brookend House is a late 18th-century house, with a rear block dated 1862, and potentially incorporating remnants of an earlier structure; some 20th-century alterations have been made. The building is constructed of brick in Flemish bond, topped with a hipped tile roof. The main part of the house has two storeys and three bays. The windows are boxed sash windows with glazing bars, set within gauged brick heads featuring keystones. Ground-floor windows now have sliding louvred shutters. The six-panel door is framed by a Doric pilaster doorcase adorned with triglyphs and an open pediment, above which is a fanlight with intersecting glazing bars. A brick dentil course runs along the eaves, and there are end chimneys. A parallel range to the rear, dated 1862 and altered in the mid-20th century, likely incorporates part of an earlier building. Inside, the staircase features stick balusters and turned newels.
