Description

Ashcroft Farmhouse is an early 19th-century house. It is constructed of stucco with a hipped slate roof. The main part of the house is two storeys high and three bays wide. The first-floor windows are sash windows with glazing bars, while the ground floor has French windows with margin lights. The doorway is distinguished by an architrave with a round head, moulded imposts, and a fanlight. A single-storey veranda extends across the entire front facade; it features a double-curved roof and is supported by slim, clustered cast iron columns in a Gothic style. Chimneys are located at each end of the building. Set back on either side are lower wings, also with hipped roofs. These wings have an oculus in the upper storey; the left-hand wing is blank on the lower level, while the right-hand wing contains a pointed window with Gothic glazing. Inside, the hall contains a staircase with an open string, slim turned balusters, and a wreathed handrail. This building has group value for its picturesque aesthetic and its representation of early 19th-century domestic architecture.
