Description

Hopton Court is a house dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of unpainted stucco, with a hipped slate roof. The design is symmetrical, featuring a three-storey, five-bay main block flanked by two-storey, two-bay wings. Giant pilasters run the height of the main block and wings, terminating below coved eaves with capitals featuring a cavetto moulding. Sashed windows with glazing bars are present throughout. A single-storey, distyle limestone porch with Greek Doric columns between unfluted antae sits centrally. Chimneys are located to the left and right of the main block, behind the ridge. The interior, partially surveyed in October 1986, includes a staircase with an open string, turned balusters, and wreathed handrails. It is believed that alterations were made to the house after 1803 by James Nash.
