Description
Park View, circa 1845, was originally built as Priessnitz House, the first large-scale hydropathic establishment in Malvern, for Dr James Wilson. The building is constructed of stone and stands three storeys high. It has five windows, each with hung sashes containing glazing bars, shouldered architraves, and moulded cill bands. Decorative Ionic pilasters are present at the ends of the building and between the windows, topped by a frieze, dentilled cornice, and a blocking course. A substantial central portico features a balustraded entablature supported by paired columns; the exterior columns are square, while the interior columns are fluted Doric.
The rear elevation is four storeys high, rendered in cement, and incorporates a frieze, moulded cornice, blocking course, and string courses at floor levels. The windows are arranged 3-2-3, with the outer windows forming full-height semi-circular bows.
Later additions to the south and north of the central portion extend for seven and five bays, respectively, and echo the details of the original windows. The north addition is supported on piers.
