Description

This is a farmhouse, likely dating to the late 17th or early 18th century, with alterations made in the late 19th century. Constructed of red brick on a sandstone plinth, the farmhouse has a tiled hipped roof. It is two rooms deep, with a central entrance hall and main stairwell, and features three chimney stacks, one to the left and two to the right of the building.

The farmhouse has two storeys and an attic, with a cellar beneath. The brickwork is in English bond. It features a moulded cornice, overhanging eaves, and a string course. The first floor has five window spaces; the window to the left of the centre is blocked, while the others contain 16-pane glazing bar sashes. The ground floor has a central doorway with a later porch which partly obscures the original doorcase. The doorcase incorporates simple Tuscan pilasters supporting an entablature. The partly glazed door has a traceried, rectangular fanlight, and is flanked by glazing bar sashes to the left. A window to the right of the centre extends to ground level, and a second door is located on the right-hand side. The right-hand return displays 19th-century cross casements, while other elevations feature glazing bar sashes. The rear roof has skylights.

Inside, the lower end of the house, on the right-hand side, has lower beamed ceilings. The fireplaces reflect 19th and 20th-century alterations.

The site of an earlier house exists to the north of the present building; it may have been the seat of one of the Red Marley manors.
