Description
This is a mid-19th century former gardeners’ house and villa, originally part of Whitley Court. It has been divided into two separate buildings: Villa Fiore to the east and the Garden House to the west. The buildings are constructed of rendered red brick with low-pitched hipped slate roofs.
The Garden House and Villa Fiore form an Italianate garden villa with a long, straight range attached to the east, aligned east-west. The villa is two storeys high and features a string course and bracketed cornice. A symmetrical, forward-gabled section breaks the front, with keyed semi-circular arched windows with bracketed sills arranged in a pattern of two, two, three, two, two on the first floor. The ground floor has three windows to the outer bays and a three-window canted bay in the centre. The main entrance is recessed and located to the left of the centre, featuring a partly glazed door and a plain fanlight. Decorative shafts are found on the chimneys.
The lower, straight range is also two storeys high, with a string course and bracketed cornice, along with pilasters to the first floor. It has thirteen bays and semi-circular arched windows on the first floor. Ground-floor windows are larger, with cambered heads and two-light semi-circular headed casements. A doorway is present in the penultimate eastern bay.
