Description
The curved linking wing, pavilion, and orangery, along with a five-arched arcade at the rear, are located southwest of Witley Court. This structure, possibly once a nursery wing, was built around 1860 by S. Daukes for Lord Ward, who later became the first Earl of Dudley. It is constructed from Bathstone ashlar and is currently in a ruined state.
The curved link extends southwest from the main house, ending in a pavilion, and connects to a rectangular orangery further west. The arcade is now a standalone feature aligned east to west at the center and rear of the link wall. The curved linking wing has two storeys and a basement, featuring a rusticated plinth, a string course, a modillion cornice, and a balustraded parapet. It consists of seven bays with cambered heads and keystones on the basement windows, eared and shouldered architraves on the first storey, and aproned semi-circular headed arched windows with cornices and decorative spandrels on the top storey.
The plain five-arched arcade at the rear complements the wing. The pavilion also has two storeys, with a moulded plinth, cornice, and balustraded parapet. It features two giant pilasters of composite order flanking a single bay, with a window similar to that of the top storey of the wing, and a composite portico in antis below. The orangery has a layout of five-three-five bays, with a rusticated plinth, a dentilled cornice adorned with egg and dart, water-leaf, and bead and reel enrichments. It includes arcades supported by composite columns with balustrade aprons and decorative spandrels, and the central three bays form a portico that slightly projects forward, accessed by quadrant steps.
