Description
Broadmeadows Farmhouse and the attached stable are a farmhouse, now a house, and stable that date back to the mid-18th century, although they are a remodelling of an early 17th-century building with some alterations made in the mid-20th century. The structure is built of brick and features a hipped plain tiled roof, with a large external chimney on the west side and a smaller stack on the east side. It has two storeys, a cellar, and an attic, all topped with a dentilled eaves cornice. The building has three bays, with the central bay slightly projecting and featuring a pediment. The window openings have been altered, and 3-light 20th-century casements have been added. There is a blind lunette in the pediment, and the central entrance is framed by a 20th-century gabled brick porch that has a cambered archway, rectangular sidelights, and a 20th-century door.
Inside, there are some internal timber-framed walls, a winder staircase in the central bay, and a large fireplace in the ground floor room on the west side. The stable, which is attached to the east side of the farmhouse, is timber-framed with brick infill, a brick and rubble plinth, brick replacement walling, and a corrugated asbestos roof. It has two framed bays and two levels. The north elevation features three rows of panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with a swept brace in the right lower corner of the left bay. The stable also has a collar and tie-beam truss with three struts to the collar and a V-strut in the apex at the east gable end, along with a ledged and battened door to the right of the north elevation. The farmhouse and stable are situated prominently and elevated south of the churchyard of the Church of St Bartholomew.
