Description

Colne House is an early to mid-19th century house located on the west side of Main Road in Kempsey. It is a symmetrical three-storey, three-bay structure built of stucco, with a tile roof. The facade is characterized by giant pilasters that extend from a band at the level of the first-floor sills, dividing the bays and flanking the front. A cornice with a blocking course sits above the pilasters. An iron balcony featuring anthemion leaf panels is located at the first-floor level. There are single-storey, one-bay wings with parapets on either side of the main house. Most windows are sash windows with glazing bars, except for the ground-floor windows and the central first-floor window, which are French windows with margin lights. The doorway has a round head, a fanlight, and an architrave with impost blocks. Chimneys are situated behind the ridge to the left and right of the building.
