3/44 Packhorse Bridge on Dick Brook south of - Church of St Peter
- II
Marked on map as Newbridge. Bridge known as Packhorse Bridge. Late C18 - early C19, possibly earlier. Hammer dressed ashlar. Single arch with continuous impost band and pronounced keystones; V-jointed voussoirs, arch flanked by plain pilasters; partially damaged quadrant abuttments; parapet obscured June 1984. Possibly related to iron smelting works complex on Dick Brook dated to mid C17: furnace, forge, locks (not included) and pack-horse bridge all appear to have been constructed of similar large well-dressed sandstone blocks. The Early Industrial Complex at Astley, Worcestershire, P J Brown, Post- Medieval Archaeology 16, 1982, pp 1 - 19.
