Description
Glasshampton, formerly a stable block, is now an Anglican monastery dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of red brick and features slate roofs, forming a U-shape with corner pavilions and a central portico on the main range. The east front consists of a two-storey central block, single-storey link blocks, and two-storey pavilions, arranged with a window pattern of 1:5:1:5:1. The pavilions, which have hipped roofs, include paired pilasters and a sill band. Most windows are glazing bar sash types with rubbed brick lintels, and some are pivotted. The central block is taller, featuring a pediment with a roundel in the tympanum and a small clock in the cupola above. A panel on the first floor displays a religious text, while the former doorway below has been replaced with a tripartite glazing bar sash window. This building was originally part of the Glasshampton house, which was destroyed by fire in 1810.
