Description
The Red House is a house dating from the late 17th century, with a front range added in the late 19th century. It features red brick construction with a tiled roof and yellow brick dressings on the later addition. The building has a T-shaped layout, with the added range running parallel to the top stroke of the T. The front range includes end stacks and a central doorway, while the earlier section has a central stack.
The road-facing elevation is two storeys high, adorned with a modillion eaves cornice and a cogged brick string course made of yellow brick. It has three bays with two- and three-light casement windows that have yellow brick labels, and a central porch. The earlier part of the house is also two storeys with attics, built in English bond, and features a cogged brick string course. The gables have raised verges, and the rear gable shows traces of a rare former brick mullioned window in the attic, as well as evidence of a former mullioned window with a label in the first floor of the rear wing on the west side. The rest of the windows have been replaced in a style that matches the front range. Inside, there are chamfered beams and shaped splat balusters on the staircase.
